Bob was originally from Allendale, SC but spent his summers in Lands End on St. Helena Island skiing and fishing. Bob started and managed the Hilton Head/Beaufort branch office of Home Safety Equipment Co. in 1981. Home Safety was acquired in 1986 by National Guardian, which later sold to Security Link, which sold once again to ADT. In 1998, Bob formed Custom Security Specialists in order to continue providing the integrity, professionalism and personal service that has become Bob’s trademark and foundation for success. He started by making his most cherished wife Nan the family eyes in the books, and then successfully cloned himself in his precious daughter Robin. He claims in many ways she is the better version! Not stopping there, he insists on a family atmosphere with all who work at Custom Security. Enjoying what they do is a requirement qualified by a bumper sticker in Bob’s office window which says, “You Know What is Right…Just Do It!”
Nan began working for Custom Security in 2001 wearing multiple hats in customer service and book keeping. The old saying, “behind ever good man is and even better wife” holds true as Nan provides a structured, organized, business flow that filters though out the company. She currently works part time handling our book keeping and accounting needs.
Robin worked for Custom Security during the summer during her high school and college years, joining the team full time in 2006. Her thirst for knowledge and ability to multi-task between management and sales has given Robin a foundation for success in the security industry. Her product knowledge by way of customer feed back is superior. This all combined with a glowing personality makes her well suited to meet your needs from sales to customer service.
Our operations manager, Duane who has been with us since January of 2018, has 21 years’ experience in industrial fire and security. In addition to such a vast level of experience he also is the best team building manager we have ever experienced. Duane has a compassion for helping others grow both professionally and personally. His knowledge in the security industry combined with integrity and drive to get the job done has taken Custom Security to the next level in customer service and installations. In Duane’s own words, “I’ve found home.”
Leon joined Custom Security in 2010 with experience in installation and service of most of the systems we currently offer. Finding such rare experience has added another tier to the depth services offered by Custom Security. Leon’s military training and construction background adapted him well for the security business. His thirst for technical knowledge of the industry quickly brought him to become a true asset as he has taken over service and installation for our community gates and access control systems.
Deven has worked with Bob since 1984 in installation and service. Deven has an astonishing memory for details even to his first installations. Deven handles the bulk of our service and seldom has a repeat service call. His attention to detail is an example to each of us.
Scott is our lead installer for commercial and residential systems. Scott’s attention to the smallest detail and cool demeanor has customer compliments being reported on a regular basis. When you speak to Scott, you can’t help but notice that he cares because he is a great listener.
Mark has been with for Custom Security for over 16 years. He works closely with our gate division on installs and service work, from installing loop detectors, gate hinges and bearings, and running wire for our technicians to be able to complete the installations. Mark is a jack of all trades, and having been with us for almost 2 decades, he is able to complete his work to our high standards and give every community the best installation possible.
Beth handles bookkeeping with Nan in the accounting department. Beth is lovingly referred to as “Mom” as she takes great care of each of her teammates as if we were her own.
Caren comes from the HVAC world, thus is well equipped to help people feel comfortable in their environment. She has excelled in customer service, troubleshooting technical needs, and scheduling. She is now training her replacement Julie to take her place in order to move into sales with Robin.
Donna, our customer service rep for the gate department, is big on details. Donna left a 15+ year career in medicine, looking for a new challenge but would also allow her to have more quality time with her family. Her attention to detail and knowledge of systems makes her a perfect fit for the Gate department of Custom Security and our family. Donna handles everything from service and project management to quoting repairs on our gated communities and access control.
Brittany, after leaving the hospitality industry joined the Custom Security family in 2016. With her experience in guest services, Brittany came to us well equipped with a bubbly personality and hard work ethic. Brittany is always eager to help and bring creative solutions to resolve any issues that arise. She found her home in the gate department where she handled customer service, scheduled gate installations, repairs, provided estimates and the little things which made our team complete. In 2018, Brittany relocated and now is working remotely to assist Custom Security with customer service, marketing and many other duties. We are blessed to still have Brittany supporting the team in so many ways.
Matt joined the Custom Security family in 2014 after working as a customer service representative in the automotive industry. His experience in troubleshooting and customer service translated well from automotive industry to the security industry. Matt grasped technical concepts quickly and is able to translate technical information to our customers and teammates with great articulation and patience. His outgoing personality, detail curiosity of how things work, and his heart to serve people make him a perfect fit to our team. Matt has progressed quickly from customer service, to sales on the alarm side, to now taking most of Bob’s responsibilities in the gate side of the business.
